Water Department’s Solar Project. Up and running

Over the last year we have been working in conjunction with a CT based company, DBS Energy, installing a ground mount 100 kW PV photovoltaic solar array at the Water Department facility. This solar system consists of (442) 230 watt solar panels, totaling (34) strings of (13) panels. This has a DC voltage rating of just over 100 kW.

The system is projected to produce an annual AC voltage production of 111kW at the meter. This should equate to $15,500 annually. Additional benefits shall include $2,900 in Class 1 Renewable Energy Credits per year from the CT Clean Energy Fund. As well as, lowering the demand on oil, gasoline, coal, Sulfur Oxides and green house gases which all contributes to a healthier environment.

This system is expected to produce 10% of our annual electric consumption. The system will be monitored and will track the production history 24/7. You can see the dashboard by copying the following link, and pasting it into your browser:  http://www.mypvpower.com/dashboard/1328

This project totaled $571,000. We applied for and received a grant from the Ct Clean Energy Fund in the amount of $389,970. The Water Department’s portion of the project was $181,000, which was funded by the Department’s capitol improvement reserves. The Water Department’s contribution has an anticipated pay back of 11 years, with a life expectancy of 25 years.

The customer rates were not impacted/increased due to the Windham Water Commission’s prudent and practical planning.

  3. Hiya, I am really glad I have found this information. Today bloggers publish only about gossip and internet stuff and this is actually irritating. A good blog with exciting content, that is what I need. Thank you for making this web-site, and I will be visiting again. Do you do newsletters by email?
